Launch of the Red Rock Stories

Red Rock Stories Launch

a 'National Trust's Heritage Festival' event

The Red Rock District Stories oral history project will be celebrated in the beautiful Red Rock Regional Theatre & Gallery in Cororooke. Guests will witness the launch of a new website containing snippets of stories taken from the interviews of almost fifty past and present residents of the district surrounding Red Rock.

This oral history project, funded by the Public Records Office of Victoria, encompasses the localities west of Colac; of Warrion, Alvie, Cororooke, Corunnun, Wool Wool,  Dreeite and Coragulac.

The stories are from people who lived and grew up in the mansions, on soldier settlements, farms, workers huts and small rural properties. Participants talk about their family, social, sporting and working lives and the history of the district, either remembered or as passed down through their families.

This is a joint project of the Red Rock & District Progress Association and the Colac & District Family History Centre. The event will provide an overview of the project, followed by the launch of the Red Rock District Stories website. There will be a demonstration of how to use the website to access the stories and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.

Morning tea will follow where guests will have the chance to mingle with the organisers and participants of the project and to reminisce about their own experiences of growing up in the Red Rock District.
