Nominate a local hero for a 2024 Colac Otway Shire Community Award

Residents are encouraged to nominate local heroes in the 2024 Colac Otway Shire Community Awards, with nominations closing soon on Sunday 7 April.
Council is asking for nominations across three categories, Community Service Award (individual or group), Young Citizen of the Year and Citizen of the Year to recognise the commitment of community-minded residents who have made a significant contribution to the shire.
Mayor Marg White said the awards are an opportunity to acknowledge those who work hard for the benefit of our towns and small communities.
“There are many individuals and groups who make a positive difference to the lives of others in our community, it may be through small everyday gestures, or on a larger scale and each contribution is important when it’s for the benefit of others.
“Sometimes, these acts of generosity go unnoticed, our Community Awards are a way to publicly recognise and thank people for the positive impact they have on the lives of others,” Cr White said.
For the first time, this year’s Community Awards presentation will take place during National Volunteer Week.
“This year, we will celebrate our Community Award winners at a stand-alone event during National Volunteer Week. The awards recognise volunteers within the community, therefore it seems fitting to hold the event during the national week celebrations,” Cr White said.
“We hope the event will provide the opportunity to acknowledge the work our many volunteers in Colac Otway undertake more broadly in the shire.
“An event during National Volunteer Week will also provide an opportunity to extend an invitation to various community organisations to attend the event so our fabulous volunteers can come together and enjoy the Community Awards celebration.”
