A car park below Colac Botanic Gardens will be closed next week during the removal of an ageing pine tree.

An arborist has inspected the pine and recommended its removal.

Contractors will be in the gardens from Tuesday, 17 December to remove the tree that has been in poor health. Work will last two to three days depending on weather.

Trucks and heavy machinery will be active in the area during the removal work, and the road and carpark below the Lake View Café will be closed to traffic and pedestrians.

Members of the public should observe all signage and stay clear of the area.

The lake foreshore walking track will remain open.

The tree, which is in the bank just below the café, has been infested by borers and has deteriorated over the past 12 months.
