Children will soon be enjoying new play equipment in Colac’s Donaldson Street Reserve, with a revitalisation of the park starting within weeks.

Construction of Stage One of the redeveloped playspace will begin on Thursday 24 April.

The new playspace will feature a variety of equipment, including junior and senior play towers with slides, junior and toddler swings, a nest swing, a climbing rope maze, a spinner, a rocker and stepping logs.

The project includes rubber surfacing for accessibility, and rubber pads at the base of slides.

Works are expected to be completed by late-May 2025.

The Donaldson Street park is the main open space in Colac West, and is a popular spot for residents, especially families. Council worked with local residents to develop plans to revitalise the park.

Community and Economy General Manager Ian Seuren said the existing playspace dated to 2002 and was due for replacement.

“The current play equipment has served the community well but it’s certainly tired and need of replacement. We want to make sure that residents from all parts of Colac have the same facilities and opportunities available elsewhere,” Mr Seuren said.

“The community were eager to be involved in planning to revitalise the Donaldson Street Reserve and we’ve worked with them to ensure concept plans for the park meet their aspirations,” he said.

“Colac West residents are proud of their community and passionate about its future, and we’ve appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with them on this important project.

”Volunteers from Rotary will salvage the existing playground equipment over the weekend of 27 April as part of the Rotary Overseas Relocated Playgrounds program, and will reuse the equipment in a developing country.”
