Heather Frizzell wins CrossXpollinatioN People's Choice Award
Published on 02 August 2018
Heather Frizzell’s Hare Today has won CrossXpollinatioN’s 2018 People’s Choice Award by a veritable landslide.
Heather’s bescarfed hare, clad in an on-trend rabbit theme onesie and toting an embroidered bunny rug, took out 29 per cent of the people’s choice votes.
Hare Today also received an honourable mention in the Tarndie Fibre Art Award for its use of wool fibre and interpretation of this year’s theme of Journeys.
Hare Today utilised mediums including cotton fabric, yarn, wool fibre, mohair and alpaca.
In Heather’s artist statement, she said she wanted the fun and engaging piece to represent the biggest of journeys – life.
“Rabbits and hares hop from place to place like that of the child, who still holds tight to the comfort of their bunny rug, until we reach that stage of maturity, the clichéd owl,” Heather said of her piece.
Almost 800 of the 1164 people who attended CrossXpollinatioN voted in the People’s Choice Award.
Other high polling pieces included Kerrie Bedson’s Reflections on a Journey; Alison McIntosh’s Passage; and Jane Bear’s Steps of Life.
The People’s Choice Award offers a $500 prize.
COPACC Manager Tamzin McLennan congratulated Heather on her award, and thanked this year’s exhibitors.
