In October 2024 Victorian local councils, including Colac Otway Shire will go to election.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer Anne Howard is encouraging residents and ratepayers to find out if you need to enrol to vote before the cut-off at 4pm on Wednesday 7 August 2024.

“Some of the enrolment rules have recently changed, so depending on your circumstances, it’s important to find out if you need to enrol to vote in the upcoming local government election,” Ms Howard said.

“State-enrolled voters are automatically enrolled to vote in the council elections, and voting is compulsory.

“If you are not a state-enrolled voter, but own or occupy a property and pay rates to Colac Otway Shire Council, or you represent a corporation, you may be eligible to enrol with Colac Otway as a council-enrolled voter, but you have to contact Council and apply.

“Letters have been sent out to property owners, occupiers and corporations in the shire to encourage people to apply for enrolment. All enrolment forms must be received by Council no later than 4pm Wednesday 7 August for you to have the opportunity to cast your vote,” Ms Howard said.
