Community encouraged to be part of 2020-21 budget and Council plan process
Colac Otway Shire Mayor Jason Schram is encouraging residents and community groups to have their say at drop-in sessions in Apollo Bay and Colac on where they would like Council to focus community resources.
Cr Schram said work had started on the 2020-21 Council plan and budget process and Council were seeking input from the community on areas or projects people believe should be considered for funding or inclusion in the plan.
“Next week Councillors and staff will be at drop-in sessions in Apollo Bay and Colac. We encourage residents and ratepayers to come along and talk to officers, ask questions about the budget and Council plan process and make suggestions on new projects, asset maintenance or upgrades for consideration over coming years.
“This is our community’s opportunity to have their say on what their priorities are and where they think Council resources should be spent.
“If you can’t make it to the drop-in sessions, the budget/Council plan survey is online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FY3FRDJ
for people to complete with their suggestions at a time that’s convenient for them.
“There are many Council services our community rely on. If there is an area that is under the responsibility of Council that needs improving, and Council can see the benefits but is unable to include it in next financial year, we may be able to plan for it in the following year’s budget,” Cr Schram said.
“Either way, it’s extremely important for our community to put forward their suggestions, either in person or via the online survey.”
Community budget information sessions are in Apollo Bay outside the bakery at 125 Great Ocean Road, Monday, 4 November from 2pm to 4pm and in Colac outside Target at 145 Murray Street Thursday, November 7 from 12pm to 2pm.
The online budget survey, which can be accessed through Council's website at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FY3FRDJ, is open until Friday November 8.
