Construction of temporary public toilet facilities

Colac Otway Shire Council will install temporary public toilet facilities in the off-street car park in Pascoe Street, Apollo Bay to service locals and visitors.

Installation of the public facilities was identified as a short term priority for Apollo Bay in response to the Colac Otway Tourism Parking and Traffic Strategy, which was recently adopted by Council.

Colac Otway Shire Acting Infrastructure General Manager Frank Castles said the temporary facilities would be installed at the Pascoe Street car park near the Bendigo Bank until a permanent solution was identified.

“The installation of these facilities will provide a temporary fix to the lack of public toilets in Apollo Bay with it being Council’s intention to have the amenities in place by mid-December, prior to the Christmas/New Year peak season.

“Council will continue to work on advocating for funds to provide a permanent solution. This will involve discussions with the new Great Ocean Road Authority about funding to support tourism related infrastructure, including public toilets,” Mr Castles said.

The public toilet facilities will include:

  • Three unisex cubicles
  • Facility access and a unisex cubicle compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
  • Hand basins external to the building
  • Universal signage

“The toilet facility will occupy up to five car spaces at the off-street car park at 14 Pascoe Street which was identified as an underutilised area in the development of the Colac Otway Tourism Parking and Traffic Strategy,” Mr Castles said.
