Active cases in Colac remind us we must minimise the spread

Colac Otway Shire Chief Executive Peter Brown says with the increase in active cases in Colac he encourages the community to continue doing the right thing and adhering to restrictions.
“Our businesses have shown great leadership and responsibility throughout the process and I commend the way those employers have protected their workers and our community with COVID-safe measures and processes,” Mr Brown said.
“A vast majority of our residents have worked together and been proactive about supporting the community campaign to protect their family, friends and their workplaces.
“However there is a threat to our community being able to confidently get back to some sort of normality when regional Victoria restrictions lift, if people visit each other now and risk spreading the virus.
“We have active cases in our community and we need to limit our movement.
“It’s Fathers’ Day on Sunday and I urge our community to pick up the phone or have an online chat. Not seeing your family at these important times can be difficult however we need to continue to do the right thing for the betterment of our community.
“Regardless of your age, it’s not okay to visit people who don’t live with you, and it’s not okay to catch up with a mate on the weekend.
“Restrictions may well start lifting for regional Victoria but if Colac still has active cases, we will still need to be careful and continue minimising contact and wearing masks, regardless of the rules,” he said.
“As a community, it’s up to us to be responsible and take every precaution we can to stay safe and protect each other.”
