2024 Election Period

The election period (commonly known as caretaker period), is the period starting from the last day that nominations to be a candidate for a council election can be received and ends at 6pm on election day.

For the 2024 elections, the Election Period commences at noon on Tuesday 17 September 2024
and concludes at 6pm on Saturday 26 October 2024.

During this period, council business is conducted in accordance with our Election Period Policy (part of our Governance Rules(PDF, 493KB) ). This Policy provides a framework for decisions prohibited by the Council during the election period in accordance with the Act, and the procedures to be applied by Council during the election period.

The Election Period Policy ensures that all general elections of Colac Otway Shire Council are conducted in a manner that is ethical, fair and equitable and are publicly perceived as such.
